The Dublin West Education Centre has published three books on the use of ICT in Teaching & Learning.
ICTs in the Primary School – Teaching & Learning for the 21st Century
This book explores the myriad of ways that ICTs can transform education: how the use of technology can transform schools and classrooms, transform how teachers work, and above all, transform how children learn.
It also examines the unlimited power of modern technology to enliven, to stimulate, to motivate, to excite and to inspire. As such, this book will be of enormous interest to teachers and student teachers.
Enhancing Literacy & Numeracy with ICTs
Enhancing Literacy & Numeracy with ICTs is a sequel to ICT in the Primary School- Teaching & Learning for the 21st Century. As the complexity of the world we live in grows and develops at a pace that can seem almost frightening, reflected in the ever-increasing range and sophistication of technological equipment now available, it is becoming more and more challenging to keep abreast of new developments, and, in particular, to utilise the most appropriate resources to enhance the attainment of educational objectives. This book aims to provide practical information, advice and guidance to teachers, and to aspiring teachers, to help plot a course and plan of action through an ever-changing landscape.
The emphasis on communication in the 1999 Irish curriculum is reflected in Ag Cur Barr Feabhais Ar Fhoghlaim Agus Ar Theagasc Na Gaeilge Le TFC. Readers will encounter first class examples of digital interactivity, of the use of podcasts, blogs and Skype; they will realise that mobile and tablet technology are accessible and appropriate and that terminology such as iBooks, eBooks and apps will become commonplace before being replaced by another generation of terms in the near future. Cartoons and animation will appeal to teachers seeking interesting ways of motivating pupils while examples of innovative teaching will be located on the PDST website.
