Aim of the course:
- To ensure that participants learn useful word processing skills
- To equip participants to use internet & email
- To develop confidence in using ICT in the classroom
Course Content
- Microsoft Word: learn word processing skills : copy paste, clipart, text wrapping, textboxes, word art , create tables & timetables, create notices and worksheets
- The Internet: learn to use the internet : internet safety issues, accessing websites, search engines, copy paste and printing from the internet , Become familiar with useful websites for teaching & learning, Email: using email and sending attachments
- Microsoft Powerpoint: create a presentation with clipart, animations and transitions, printing slides and handouts, insert sound and music onto presentation
- Using the digital camera: taking photos, downloading images and saving to folders
- File Management – creating folders, inserting files into folders
- Using the scanner - become familiar with scanning documents onto the computer
- Using Microsoft Paint: develop creativity and design skills using the paint programme

Project Maths Workshops

The Project Maths Development Team, in conjunction with the NCTE, is running a series of workshops to support the integration of ICT into the teaching of mathematics. These introductory modules focus on the use of software to teach geometry, trigonometry and statistics. They will also include a short introduction to using a laptop with a data projector.
Course duration
This course consists of 5 modules. Each module has been designed to be of 2.5 hours in duration.
Target Audience
These modules are aimed at Post Primary teachers of Mathematics who are interested in integrating ICT within their classroom.
Workshop 1
GeoGebra for Synthetic Geometry
This covers the use of GeoGebra in the teaching of theorems, constructions and transformation geometry for both Junior Cert. and Leaving Cert. from Strand 2.
Workshop 2
GeoGebra for Co-ordinate Geometry:
This covers the use of GeoGebra in the teaching of co-ordinate geometry for both Junior Cert. and Leaving Cert. from Strand 2.
Workshop 3
GeoGebra for Trigonometry plus participants sharing their resources:
This covers the use of GeoGebra in the teaching of trigonometry for both Junior Cert. and Leaving Cert. from Strand 2.
Workshops 4 & 5
Excel for teaching Statistics:
This covers the use of Excel in the teaching of statistics. It will deal with the production of relevant graphs and formulae for both Junior Cert. and Leaving Cert. from Strand 1.
