A series of three workshops for teachers working with younger children. (This is not suitable for teachers familiar with the First Steps programme)

Introducing Aistear to Infant Teachers
** NEW DATES JUST ANNOUNCED **
Aistear is a new curriculum framework from the NCCA aimed at children from 0-6 years. This series of workshops will introduce teachers to Aistear through the following topics:
- Introduction to Aistear, The Early Childhood Curriculum Framework, with a focus on offering practical ideas for teaching through play in the Infant Classroom.
- Supporting Children's Language learning through play in the infant classroom.
- The teacher’s role in organising and planning for play in the Infant classroom.
- Supporting learning and development through assessment in the infant classroom across Aistear’s themes
- A Practical Exploration of the Features of Good Assessment in the Infant Classroom.

Introducing Aistear to Primary Principals
This workshop will focus on introducing the key aspects of Aistear. We will explore how Aistear builds on and enriches the infant curriculum. We will look at some of the practical ideas and examples of how children can be supported in their learning through Aistear. We will also explore how using play as a methodology can support children's learningespecially in literacy and numeracy.

Introducing Aistear to Parents of Primary School Children
Aistear is a new early childhood curriculum framework which supports the work teachers do in the infant classroom. Aistear highlights the role of parents in helping their children to make progress in learning and encourages good relationships and communication between teachers and parents. This workshop will explore how parents can value play in the classroom and offer practical ideas on how parents can support their children's learning through play at home.

French Language for Primary Teachers
This French language course will offer primary teachers an opportunity to refresh their language skills with a view to introducing French to their classes. The course will be designed in such a way as to ensure teachers can build a level of competency in French in order to teach the modern language curriculum. Many of the activities would be easily adapted for the Gaeilge lesson.

Making Phonics Fun in the Classroom
This course aims to help teachers become more confident in their own understanding of Phonics “Making Phonics Fun" is designed to give teachers the necessary skills to help the children learn and develop synthetic Phonics for the purpose of allowing the children to read and write, independently.
We as teachers must give our children the opportunity to make his/her own discoveries. "Making Phonics Fun" helps you to give your children the capacity to make those discoveries. "HELP ME TO DO IT MYSELF”

Refresher Day Course in Music from Scratch through Samba Drumming and Percussion
The course is suitable to participants of previous spring, summer & autumn courses. It covers warm up exercises and several of the rhythms learned during these courses, with upgraded notes explaining how it all links into the current music curriculum strands.
It is also suitable for teachers with a musical background.

Using New Library Resources for Classrooms - Workshop
Through this new workshop, you will find and use the ready-made teaching resources on the Ask about Ireland Website and the wide range of relevant services from your local public libraries. The workshop is divided into three modules:
- Using the Ask about Ireland resources in your classroom
- Services and support from your local library
- Useful reference resources for free online access
The Ask about Ireland website’s collection of teaching and learning resources has been developed to meet needs of the curriculum for many different subjects, both primary and post-primary. Basic I.C.T. Level Required
