PDST presents two workshops on developing mental maths strategies in your classroom. Through these approaches you will see how your teacher questioning can elicit a variety of strategies from the children in your class whilst also creating a classroom climate whereby children share their mental maths strategies openly.
Whole class feedback involves recording a range of strategies by the teacher without endorsing any particular method. Strategy development in mental maths, encourages reasoning and problem solving and reduces children’s reliance on rote learning and simply recalling number facts.
