Wide Minds - the Human Face of Digital Learning (WiMi)
Comenius Network 141975-2008-UK-CNW

Wide Minds, a Comenius 3 Network, is one project in the Lifelong Learning Programme of the European Union. Wide Minds promotes international collaboration as a context for improving digital competence and multilingualism in all learners.

What is the WiMi Network?

One of only 3 Comenius networks to have been funded by the EU Commission from 2008 -2011, WiMi consists of 15 partners representing public authorities, universities and pedagogical institutes, 7 partner schools, and 2 associate partners.

What are WiMi’s main aims and objectives?

To act as a forum for innovation and best practice, and to provide heads and teachers with the training, and support mechanisms necessary to develop their use of digital learning and multilingualism in the exciting context of international projects.

What is WiMi doing?

Promoting the human face of digital learning through:

Learning with familiar faces

  • Local support and ICT training in 13 Regional Co-ordinating Centres

Learning with new faces in authentic, international contexts

  • International conferences and ICT training
  • Opportunities for school partner finding and initiation of international school projects
  • Mobilities both real and virtual

WiMi is also:

  • Promoting use of open source / free software
  • Encouraging and supporting creative use of ICT
  • Building Moodle LMS (Learning Management System)
  • Carrying out a video conferencing initiative
  • Conducting action research in Multilingualism
