25AUT101 "I don't get it?", not anymore: A framework to support children's independence in schools
This practical and interactive professional learning session introduces teachers to the Get Ready, Do, Done framework - a visual and highly accessible planning and self‑regulation tool developed by executive function specialist Sarah Ward. The framework supports pupils to plan, organise, and complete tasks effectively by breaking them into three concrete stages: getting ready, doing, and recognising when done.
Get Ready, Do, Done is promoted within the national RELATE Framework, released to support all primary school teachers in fostering pupils’ wellbeing, self‑regulation, and independence. The session is grounded in research on executive function (EF), including the work of Dr. Kelly B. Cartwright, whose studies highlight the crucial role of EF skills (e.g., cognitive flexibility, working memory, and self‑regulation) in literacy development, reading comprehension, and flexible problem‑solving across the curriculum.
